this article[^] is about Trent Lott. I'm not a specialist of US internal politics, but from the articles I've read I believe this guy is one of these f*cking "hidden" racists, who is now ready to say anything to save his job. (This rant is NOT about the GOP, I don't know if Lott is representative of the Republican mentality)

I think he made a mistake by apologizing for something he didn't do. Get over it. His original comment was made to make an old man laugh on his birthday. There weren't any racial undertones until people put them there on their own. Trent Lott should resign - not for his original comments or any "racists" sentiments, but for his pathetic groveling in the face of criticism. I don't get our media. Why are they picking on Lott when he was just trying to make a 100 year old man laugh. What's he supposed to say? "Well Strom, I'm glad you didn't win you racist pig!" Gimme a break. So what if he said it 2 or 3 times, Strom was never a spring chicken when he said it. Lott should not resign until Democratic Senator Robert "Sheets" Byrd does. Byrd was a Grand Dragon (or wizard, whichever) in the KKK!! Byrd even used the dreaded "N" word just a couple of years ago. IMO, all of this shows just how biased our media coverage is.

But Byrd used the N word just a couple of years ago. By using the same level of thinking the democrats are using against Lott, we can say that Byrd is a racist.

The liberal media has tried to quash the right if individual expression of opinion, and on many fronts it has largely succeeded, but this nation is still a place of diversity, and tolerance is supposed to be a fundamental part of who we are. To depose a politician for being a past member of the KKK, or for once opposing a cultural change that he has since accepted as the will of the majority would be the ultimate un-American act! Diversity of opinion has led to duels and fist fights in the hallowed halls of Congress, and in my opinion, we were the stronger for it. This too civilized, politically correct land is doomed if a change in direction isn't forthcoming soon. I'd even vote for a VBer, just for the change! Murder is a crime against a person, segregationism is a crime against humanity. Both should lead to court with the same result.
