Time to exercise the 2nd Amendment rights? "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." was written with this in mind! Some line about "Deterring Tyrannical Government" springs to mind.

maybe, but thanks to Oboma's NDAA bs.. we would then just be labeled domestic terrorist and arrested without due process and disappear...

It used to be what you know that got you ahead, then it was who you know, now its what you know about who you know that gets you ahead. Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

So the British/Kenyan Barack Hussein Obama, whose parents met whilst learning Russian (so were probably communists) and who was schooled in Indonesia has removed the constitutional rights of Americans, and you let him?

in the interest of CYA and not saying more than I should considering the government paranoia these days, I will only say that I did not vote for him and will not be voting for him again this year.... Short of breaking the law which I try to stay away from most of the time... not a lot I can do but try and educate people about this sort of thing and stock up on ammo for the near future when it all goes to crap.. In that note, I wonder how many people in this country( % wise) even knew about the NDAA before it was passed, or for that matter even know about it now? I have a dismal feeling it would be a low number. The hard part is educating people about the dangers of things like this without sounding like a freaking looney right of the bat(resulting in instant ignore by the people I am trying to teach about it.) The government and Hollywood has made such a mockery of "conspiracy theorists" that if you mention government cover-ups a large % of the population instantly goes "baaa baaaa your crazy the gov wouldn't do that. baaaa baaaa"

I find it sickening. So it is now a felony to protest anyone in the executive branch. OR even someone that will potentially enter the executive branch. What a crock! Our rights silently slip away in the night one by one and there is nothing we can do about it. Totalitarian State is just around the corner, and much of the population will sit there pretending like nothing is wrong as they are too dumb or too brainwashed by the media thinking it is for the best. Those that do point it our are flagged as conspiracy theoriests. They need not do anything to the ones "aware" as being "aware" does not change the direction of the out of control train.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

I now maintain enough ammo on hand to keep the magazines full + 200-300 extras for practice. I have two sets of magzines, 16 30-round mags in four-mag bandoliers, and two 30-rounders in the rifles with a thumper in the pipe (these mags are ALWAYS full). I also have six 20-round mags that I take to the range for practice. These are also loaded, but I would leave four of them behind in a bug-out situation (they're better for prone shooting because they're shorter). I usually order 2000 rounds at a time, but go through it pretty quick. I use M855 S109 62-grain, and the current price for that is about $340/1000 rounds. Whenever my wife or I go to Wal-mart, we pick up a 50-round box of .45 ACP. Because of this, my stockpile of this particular ammo usually exceeds 2000 rounds, but that's okay because we practice with it a lot more than the rifles. I have very little JHP ammo because I figured hardball (FMJ) would be more useful in the field, where JHP is what you need for home defense to avoid "over penetration". In the event I need to bug out, over-penetration will be the least of my worries.

You cannot beat a 7.62 for penetration, and the damage it causes as it leaves ensures there is no reason to shoot the same man twice. (Get the 155 grain rather than the 144, the accuracy is better and can easily give a 2" group at 300 yards, even for a poor shot like yourself :) )

This is another example of an attack on the first amendment - the government lets it be known that they're "watching", and everybody clams up because they're afraid of being labeled as a dissenter or terrorist. This essentially is the same thing as eliminating their 1st amendment rights. I say, continue letting them have it with both barrels. If you're a gun owner, you have to fill out the 4473 form for the background check. They then contact the FBI who gives the go ahead for the purchase. By law, the FBI isn't supposed to maintain those records, but if you are under the mistaken impression that they're actually following the law, you're sadly mistaken. For the most part, they know where every legally purchased firearm is, and who owns them. They can also confiscate the completed forms from the FFL that initiated the background check - any time they please. My point is that not discussing it is pointless, and your only defense against them is constant vigilence. If the internet is suddenly unavailable to large groups of Americans, or GPS devices suddenly stop working on a national basis, or even cell phone connectivity goes tits up for a lot of people all at the same time, that's a pretty good sign that defication is about to come into direct contact with the rotating occilator. In other words, hide your weapons/ammo, or just leave your house altogether, because their first act (after disabling our ability to communicate) will be to disarm the public that they know owns guns.

When I was in the Navy, we conducted frequent damage control exercises. In the case of fire, we were instructed to extinguish it at the source. That applies to more things than just fire.

.223/5.56 is even more ubiquitous than .308 or 7.62 - and it's lighter, so you can carry more. I can reach out to about 500 yards accurately (more than 1/4 mile). That should be good enough. :)

I hear ya, but I do not believe there is a single source of this problem. In a way we are our own worst enemies. People love scary stuff. They eat it up. Then the corporate media feeds on this, as that is what sells. Then the politicians feed on it as that is what gets them elected. So in the end we eF ourselves over for wanting to watch scary stuff on the news. It was not necessarily the media's fault as they are fighting ratings against other broadcasters. It wasn't necessarily the politicians fault as they are fighting polls against their counterparts.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

The .223/5.56 is stocked on store shelves (Wal-mart, hardware stores, sporting goods stores, ad of course, gun stores), not to mention the thousands of people that have an AR-15 or other rifles chambered in that cartridge. They have ammo too, and will most likely have to leave a certain amount of it behind when they head for the hills. Easy to find = ubiquitous. A standard combat patrol load-out is 210 rounds of 5.56, and (nowadays) 48 rounds of 9mm. I have enough mags ready to go for 240 rounds of 5.56 and 49 rounds of .45 ACP, for each rifle and psitol I own. I can grab all of those magzines and be out the door in less time than it takes to say the sentence, "Damn, John, that's a crapload of ammo".

It's nice to use the same ammo that is being used against you.

In other words, hide your weapons/ammo, or just leave your house altogether, because their first act (after disabling our ability to communicate) will be to disarm the public that they know owns guns.

while I agree with you, my one tiny difference is that my guns that I currently own are family owned and passed down for a couple of generations. I would highly doubt they know that they even exist. For example I have one old shotgun that belonged to my great grandfather. and its still one of the straightest shooting things I have ever held.. That being said, no they are not assault rifles or anything high powered such as the military would be packing, but, in my hands you do not want to be on the other end still :) And in this part of the country its all bush anyway so shorter LOS means shorter range weapons work just fine as long as you are woods smart. As far as the rest of your post, yeah you are correct sir.

Never discount the willingness of your friends, neighbors, or even family members, to rat you out. They may be compelled to do so in the interest of their own perceived survival, but don't just assume everyone's singin' outa the same hymnal.
