Move to Germany. That's the only country I know where cars actually stop at pedestrian crossings.

In Switzerland too, about 95% of the time. It's a fact that most traffic accidents involving pedestrians occur at pedestrian crossings because 5% of the time the drivers are too dozy to notice that a) there's a crossing and b) there are people in the road.

Indeed. And usually somewhat less crowded. :)

My experience in Chicago is that people stopped for pedestrians whether they were in the crosswalk or not. State law. Of course, that was 20 years ago. And I haven't been back since. Things have probably gone down hill.

And yet I wouldn't mind my good old Glilon from the military at that moment. Just use it as a club to smash that guy's windshield... See he actually ignored us and splashed water at my 4yo. She is tiny... she got all wet. I got all :mad::mad::mad::mad: and still am...

When I run, I will hit cars that crowd the walkway instead of stopping if they violate the 3 foot law. One man, who was driving a large truck who, not only ran the stop sign but clipped the sidewalk were I was about to cross stopped his vehicle to confront me, my only response, "You ran a stop sign and hit a pedestrian on a sidewalk, your move" he left. People are an inconsiderate lot. But, also, keep in mind that most pedestrians are just as inconsiderate. While in the Acadia National Park in Maine on Summer a park ranger was standing partly in the road facing the near-side direction with no intention of crossing. I slowed to idle and creeped past and not only did she decide to step in front of my vehicle at the last possible second, she tried to give me a mouth full for not yielding to pedestrians. Let's just say I yell louder.

Next time I will kick a car... the driver will stop and I will claim he hit me!. The license revocation should teach them manners. Or not.

A buddy of mine has OI. He's 2'6" and obviously in a wheel chair. He used to ram cars that were in the cross walk and purposely do a "gimp flail" (meaning he made it look like the impact nearly threw him out of the chair). It was very funny, and we both had laughs watching their faces because there wasn't much to be done.... they just looked horrified He also used to flat tire people on the sidewalks. Very funny. This post made me think of that, thought I'd share.

Not. I had a taxi accelerate from a stop towards me so I jumped back and banged on the bonnet. I crammed onto the crowded pavement (sidewalk) and he started up again and I had to twist to avoid the wing mirror. I banged on the roof, as it turns out, a little hard. He jumped out the car, assaulted me then called the police. They weren't interested in his using a big black mercedes as a weapon, they were only interested in charging me with criminal damage. Took about 6 months to get to the point where they would just let me pay for his dent to get pulled out again. But he never replaced my shirt. Only bright side is he had to drive around 6 months with a dent in his roof and the thought that if he'd been more patient it wouldn't be there. /edit: this wasn't on a crossing, it was in a tiny narrow crowded street.

The thought of desinging pocket-sized nail strips (like the one's police use to stop a suspect's vehicle) crossed my mind after my last trip to India. There it seems the lower on the social spectrum you are, the faster vehicles drive at you. In fact, poor people in the cross walks happen to have the same effect as yellow lights here in the US have on drivers. Until then, my advice is to keep a nice rock in your pocket and know when and how to use it and get away with it.
