So Sarkozy is becoming the man he beat all those years ago? Jean-Marie Le Pen was regarded as a racisct when he stood 8 years ago on a platform of "Lets have no more immingration". Odd, innit?

Correction: Sarkozy didn't beat Le Pen, it was the previous president (Chirac) who beat him. And last election, he already tried (succeeded?) to grab those right-wing xenophobic votes.

Well, for the time being immigrant means non-EU citizens. But yeah from his speech he just said "immigrants are good for France but the problem now is that there are too many of them and our integration system is working worse and worse so we can't help them get housing, a job, support". Which imo is the glaring problem with immigration in the entire western Europe. Immigrants just get forced to band together in little enclaves for support from their own instead of having that support from their new country. This way they still stay linked to their old ways and are slow to get integrated.

Well said, i think all countries have this problem. As adjecent populations struggle with unemployment etc. and see greener grass on the other side they tend to move. NZ is no different except we have a large moat around our country :)
