My guidance councilor was a good guy. I don't really want to bash him. He had very high hopes for me, and wanted me to do several things I may or may not have been able to do. That said: I heard there was a programming/computers class in high school. I told my guidance councilor that I wanted to take that class and he wouldn't have it. He talked me out of it. Said it's a bunch of 1's and 0's , boring, I wouldn't like it, etc...

That's an offensive comment. Like any other institution, there are good and bad. Taking pot shots at all the clergy is just lazy humour. Yes, the Catholic church should have acted properly on the issue of molesting priests years ago. This doesn't mean that all priests are guilty though. Perhaps a more mature response from you would have been appropriate. BTW - it's not just priests who hand out communion.

I would hazard to guess that it is "mostly" offensive to Catholics and catholic sympathizers. I personally did not find it offensive and I found it funny. With that said, I don't think CP is the place to post blatantly offensive material, regardless of forum. I don't think you need to be a catholic sympathizer to be sick of crass generalisations. It's why I don't approve of generalisations over members of any religion, be they Jewish, Islam or whatever.

True, however everyone here generalizes about something, not just religion or race. We generalize and then we post about our generalizations. We then get into arguments and heated debates, all over "opinions" not facts. I am not saying generalizations are right, they are not but we all do it. I also mentioned that maybe we shouldn't have a forum such as the soapbox if it is going to be used as a dumping ground for offensive remarks/comments. I would also like to say that I am no angel and I am guilty as well, for posting offensive and lazy humor. :)

I take issue with hypocritical institutions. It seems that when an institution has the outward views of being against homosexuality, but internally defends its members that practice homosexuality with children. There may be good priests. Did I say there wasn't? Did I say this individual priest was hypocritical? No, but the institution he belongs to is. I will hold my view about Catholicism until as an institution they change their hypocritical policies.
