The question is why is it taking so long? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Limits_to_Growth[^] My personal take is that such doom day predictions are always based on limited models because there simply isn't enough knowledge to develop real models. And due to complexity there is unlikely to ever be such models. Thus all such models (and predictions) are always guaranteed to be wrong. But if you get some personal satisfaction in planning for a global collapse then have fun (I certainly did so in the early 80s.) And be safe in the knowledge that because they are wrong that such failures might occur sooner rather than later. However it probably isn't a good idea let your life revolve entirely around it (unless perhaps you start making money by doing so.)

            maybe if you count time in minutes it is taking a long time... on a geological scale that it is having an effect on it is a mere blink of an eye
