I don't think this is just the US it seems to be that evil is pretty well distributed throughout the world and greed, well look at history it's been around as long as prostitution. Oh wait in either case you get screwed. :)

He should be handed over, and tried by the Afghans as a civil mass-murder case. Only way the surviving relatives will get any feeling that justice has been done.

That's what really annoys me about this story, the US is taking whoever they want from the UK at the moment for trial over there for crimes committed over here thanks to the ludicrous extradition policy signed by Blunkett. But one of there's does something abroad and he is on the plane and back home for a trial before the bodies have finished twitching.

16 bullets! Remember the A Team - a crack commando unit yet they manage to fire thousands of rounds and not hit anyone! Maybe his defense should be that he wasnt aiming for them but hit them by accident - has worked before
