Regardless of what really happened, John, the root cause of this tragic incident is your crazy gun laws.

Yeah, and pencils commit spelling errors.

One man's crazy is another man's sane. For the most part, you euro guys simply don't understand, so I generally take comments like yours and dismiss them as coming from someone that is uninformed or simply having no vested interest in the topic.

:wtf: :omg: That's crazy. I read the entire thing, and wow is all I can say. I actually lived near Oklahoma City at the time of the bombing. That was a very frightening day. -Z

A single lunatic terrorist with capability and intent will get his weapons in any country, including Norway. This is one type of problem. But it has nothing to do with the everyday problem of poor gun control. Which kills many more.

Yea sorry but I can't agree with that. It's not that I support USian gun laws, but calling it the root cause goes a bit far for me. Just having a gun didn't make this happen, otherwise similar incidents would occur all the time. Hunting for trouble with a gun kind of asks for it though. As does beating up someone in a country where every dick with a dick carries enough guns and ammo to defeat a small army. Root cause: idiots are idiots. Here in Europe they would have tried to knife each other. Happens often enough. It's fatal less often, which is actually a bad thing because it hampers our evolution - more idiots get to live. Would be neat if they could clean each other up.

What a strange statement. If one of your relatives got stabbed by a knife and survived, you'd say 'too bad it wasn't a gun so the idiot would die..'

Maybe. But why is family suddenly involved? Do you discriminate based on blood ties? Statistically, the kind of people that get in knife fights are very likely to be the kind of people I'd like to lose.

911 tape edited to make Zimmerman out to be making racist statements[^] Color me surprised.

Yup - the lying festival on this, from both right and left (if one can really divide along those lines) is nauseating, and to some, enlightening. It was a lead Yahoo! story (pot do call the kettle black!), noting your incident, and a 'conservative' group grabbing a frame from a video and photo-shopping supposed injuries on Zimmerman. On the other side, one TV guy kept playing (over and over) as sound-enhanced comment of supposed Zimmerman-racist remarks. Try as me might, the guy was just plane full of loose sh*t. And, of course, the claims that Zimmerman was the one being attacked. There does, however, seem to be a bottom line: Zimmerman went looking for trouble and created the situation. I don't see how their laws could cover that. Imagine if I took my Uzi into an NRA meeting and suddenly felt threatened by all those people - and felt myself to be in danger - crap, I could blast the lot of 'em and walk away scott free. I wonder if the conservatives and gun supporters would still think . . .

Myself I would start by thinking that you have a huge number of assumptions in that statement.
