Because the Chicken is the little known symbol for Christianity. It comes from the way they have to travel in groups to "bring you the good news".

Ideological Purity is no substitute for being able to stick your thumb down a pipe to stop the water

Does not compute. Please expand, for as far as I am aware there is no banning of the consumption of animals on friday.

          Good Friday:

The Catholic Church treats Good Friday as a fast day [...] on which the faithful abstain from eating meat.

Friday was a fast day. You had to forgo flesh. The Church decided that fish weren't flesh. Hence: Friday is Fish'n'Chips.

Weird, becauser they also insist upon eating fish, they get around it by insisting fish isn't meat. AFAIK Fish is meat, the flesh of an animal. Mind you the catholic church also considers beaver as a fish, because it lives in the water, and a barnacle goose is a fish because barnacles are found in the water and as everyone knows, barnacles are the eggs of geese! (I am serious, this is not a joke, this is the catholic church).

Perhaps all the beaver they've come across has reeked of fish?

As any good cannibal will tell you Pork is very close to human flesh in taste :-\ thus it is not Kosher or Halal to eat pork on the day our savior died. That is just my take on it as i reflect on how awesome my bacon breakfast was
