Hey there guys, I sometimes think about happiness, being a software engineer. So what is happiness for you? What makes you happy?

Happiness doesn't really have anything to do with being a software engineer, I think ... like any job, this one is a means to an end (i.e. it pays for a house, food, services and then elective entertainment which is what you do to be happier). Happiness is seeing your team win something important, or, better, being a part of a team that wins something. Happiness is coming home after a hard day and your SO is there with sympathy and a cup of tea. It's a rainbow over the mountains after you just got rained on for half an hour getting to the viewpoint. I think it's always transient, it's the little moments that life gives us that are better than the usual. It's not possible to be happy all the time, because it can't be better than usual all the time, and we get accustomed to what's usual – i.e. our everyday life, even for a poor person, is beyond the wildest dreams of medieval lords, but we aren't all ecstatic the whole time. But life throws something at you almost every day that will provide some happiness. That's a bit deep for a coding forum :~

Happiness is like wetting your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel it's warmth.

And its lasts only moments as soon after ridicule and embarassment set in crushing your happiness into but a faded memory that you can no longer even comprehend ;P

JSOP might actually quote The Beatles on this one. Me, I just like to do what I find fun. If other people like or appreciate it, that's great. My hobbies satisfy this for me, and most of them I get to do with my fiancee or friends or even my pets. I think there is more than a coincidence there.

To crush your enemies, to see them fall at your feet -- to take their horses and goods and hear the lamentation of their women. That is best.
