Does the hotel have a bar and a restaurant? If so, you should have all you need to survive there.

I have the pleasure of two weeks work over there next week. The company I'm working for are in the Bankstown/Milperra area of Sydney and so sensibly so is my hotel, the question is whats the place like? Do I venture out of an evening or stay safely in the hotel?

Just watch out for the drop bears. If they land on your shoulders, they'll eat your brains. Or is that zombies? I may be confused here.

I figured as much from wandering around in streetview - at least the hotel has a bar and restaurant, what more does a guy need! As far a I know I'm not a complete prat although on rare occasions (usually under the influence) I have been known to try :)

Your going to be in Oz short of passing out it is going to be REALLY difficult to qualify as a complete prat. Getting pissed and enjoying oneself is not a social disaster, not being able to make it back to the hotel OTOH may be painful and expensive!

Meh, don't worry about the rest of the mob. I see Bankstown in the media frequently. I wouldn't worry if I was you - every time I see a short clip of the place, there's always police in the shot - it's obviously a safe place.

Never lived in Bankstown but my impression is that Australia is generally safe! It's not the US wild west with redneck with gun in every car over here!!! ;P

If I got lost in Bankstown in the middle of the night I'd be a lot more nervous than if lost in the city centre... doesn't have a great reputation, but definitely not the worst place to be! Just be careful I guess.
