Looks like after 4 years my 8800GT has decided to stop working when I thought about at least a good 3 more years. I've looked at GTX 580 to be...a "worthy" replacement for another 6 years or more. Would like suggestions as to what kind of PSU you guys recommend. I'm looking at probably a Corsair 600W or a 800W.

So are you wanting a graphics card or a power supply?

He seems to have won a lottery or something. Buying a $500 video card, and then randomly also replacing his power supply. :-D

Both unfortunately. The current PSU I have is not sufficient.

I have a GTX580, and the original 700W psu in my machine wasn't man enough to run the card. However swapped to another 700W psu and it was. You need to look at the amps that can be delivered over a single 12v rail and not the combined overall wattage of the PSU. Something to be aware of.

Yeah I heard that it's a very good card. Somewhere like 20 to 25k I guess. I'm a gamer but not a hardware enthusiast enough to just go and get hardware when they get released. It's because my 8800GT stopped. I usually get this kind of stuff for like 6 years or so. I think it's a worthy investment for that much of a time.

Actually I meant that without a proper power supply both a Graphic Card AND the CPU are in danger of just going wrong.

Even a 700W PSU wasn't enough? :( You're right about the voltage rails. I'm looking for a good PSU with suggestions on that. Which PSU you have?

I usually buy sub-$100 video cards - of course I don't play PC games at all. So I've never had a problem with my PS not being good enough.

Yeah. It still matters a little when you upgrade a CPU though. Not much I guess. Here's hoping there's a new trend: Lord Nish makes PC games play at full graphics without a graphic card.

Yeah. It still matters a little when you upgrade a CPU though. Not much I guess. Here's hoping there's a new trend: Lord Nish makes PC games play at full graphics without a graphic card.

Hi i wouldnt get a 580 tbh rather get a factory oc'ed 670 youll basically get the same performance as a stock 680, and its new tech. also the 670 should use less power and run cooler than a 580.

Overclocking increases risk of hardware failure over time, he wants the card for 6 years.
