Anyone have insight on obtaining liability insurance for developers? I'm in need of both General liability and Professional (Errors and Omissions) liability, and it's a bit frustrating. Most seem to be turned off by the fact I do simulations/modeling of forest fire. Any leads are appreciated!

EOE is ridiculously expensive. Liability costs not so bad. First confirm that you need EOE; usually you can get by with just General Liability. If you are in Florida send me an email and I can forward you my agent's contact information and they do both. If you are not in Fl, well, don't know what to tell you.

Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. I also do Android Programming as I find it a refreshing break from the MS. "And they, since they Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs" -- Robert Frost

sounds like he has a reason to move to FL!

        If it moves, compile it

I'm not in FL, but thanks for the thoughts. Seems my best course right now is to either get the clause for Professional Liability removed or turn down the contract. I've heard excuses such as "we won't offer Liability Coverage to firms engaged in such services" to "We won't offer coverage in Montana" Still hoping Hartford might be able to offer me something reasonable, but the responses so far are dismal. I have tried techinsurance.com, and a host of other similar providers. General Liability is relatively cheap (~ $425/yr) but I can't even get a quote for Professional Liability.

Maybe you can create a business entity in Florida and thus insure it via that. Naturally your rates must include all associated costs. Perhaps you can get specialized insurance coverage - following in google seemed to turn up some possibilities.

            Private specialized insurance

Update First quote after many denials received. $15,000 per year. No BS. This company insures fire fighters and consultants. If I was a federal employee or contractor actually lighting fires with a drip torch I could get it for $300 per year. Computers scare these people more than flames! If you say "simulation" or "fire modeling" to these groups they freak out. I am actively pursuing a liability waiver. Otherwise rates are going to have to be raised significantly.
