I mostly disagree. The citizenry probably shouldn't have bazookas and grenades.

Neither should the government... of a free state.

If you mean the police, sure, but the military needs to protect against external threats.

How is that "All Citizens Carry Guns And We Have One Of The Worlds Highest Murder Rates" working out for y'all? I am ex-military and have used weapons, and believe me I would not want our police carrying them. In fact gun crime here is so rare as to be abnormal.

IMHO the police and the military should not be allowed to carry a weapon that a civilian is not allowed to carry.

Actually, it usually works out pretty well. This is an unusual (and terrible) incident. Generally speaking the police don't need guns because the vast majority (over 99% probably) of the people neither have access to or want a gun. Even if these poor girls had been carrying it looks like it was a trap and they may still have been killed. I also know that most police in the UK don't want to carry guns since they feel that will encourage criminals to use them, so heightening the risk. Yes, some criminals do and have always carried but most don't. What's stupid is making a stupid remark with little or no knowledge and making it sound like you're crowing over their deaths because it makes your point. Shame on you.

He said: "I heard about 10 shots quite close, bang, bang, bang, like that. I knew they were gunshots because sometimes there is clay pigeon shooting in the fields. Sounds like everyone except the cops had guns.

Considering he had a grenade, also illegal in US, it wasn't a fair fight. I think the only failure here is the justice system that let him walk while under suspicion of murder.

Gun crime is actively reported in the UK because it's so rare. What's stupid is being a complete [word redacted to appease Slacker007] about the loss of a human life. John, your post was stupid, crass, insensitive, completely out of line and trolling.

More interesting data_..."Switzerland has one of the highest militia gun ownership rates in the world"_ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland[^] From your links Switzerland is close to the top in ownership and I suspect that if the type of weapon was categorized they would be much higher. And from your other link the murder rate is far, far down the list. So one might conclude that either that higher gun owner does either impact death rates making it very, very high and very, very low. Or one might suppose that something completely different than gun ownership statistics has something to do with death rates.

Considering he had a grenade, also illegal in US, it wasn't a fair fight. I think the only failure here is the justice system that let him walk while under suspicion of murder.

In general you can do this but you wouldn't own the gun: it's often a day out with lunch and you use the guns provided. To won a gun (legally) is quite difficult.

I hear guns are very effective against assholes with grenades that have the drop on you.

I suppose "an asshole" would have been more clear.
