Hey UK, How's That Gun-Free Zone Workin' Out For Y'all?
-
Actually, it usually works out pretty well. This is an unusual (and terrible) incident. Generally speaking the police don't need guns because the vast majority (over 99% probably) of the people neither have access to or want a gun. Even if these poor girls had been carrying it looks like it was a trap and they may still have been killed. I also know that most police in the UK don't want to carry guns since they feel that will encourage criminals to use them, so heightening the risk. Yes, some criminals do and have always carried but most don't. What's stupid is making a stupid remark with little or no knowledge and making it sound like you're crowing over their deaths because it makes your point. Shame on you.

Considering he had a grenade, also illegal in US, it wasn't a fair fight. I think the only failure here is the justice system that let him walk while under suspicion of murder.

Gun crime is actively reported in the UK because it's so rare. What's stupid is being a complete [word redacted to appease Slacker007] about the loss of a human life. John, your post was stupid, crass, insensitive, completely out of line and trolling.

We're actually around the middle of the pack on murder rate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate[^] If you're talking gun related murder rates, then yes, we suck: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate[^] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country[^] Not defending JSOP, he's an elephant for posting that, just thought the data was interesting.

Not that that's saying much, given that the countries with higher murder rates are Central/South America and all of Africa. Marc

Somethings I feel strongly about - and I don't regret a single word of my post. As a taunt, he was plain stupid, and sometimes you have to descend to someone's level before they can understand that they crossed a line. He shouldn't mind - after all, he has told us many, many times how manly and tough he is.

More interesting data_..."Switzerland has one of the highest militia gun ownership rates in the world"_ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Switzerland[^] From your links Switzerland is close to the top in ownership and I suspect that if the type of weapon was categorized they would be much higher. And from your other link the murder rate is far, far down the list. So one might conclude that either that higher gun owner does either impact death rates making it very, very high and very, very low. Or one might suppose that something completely different than gun ownership statistics has something to do with death rates.

No you don't. You can disagree with John, and put him in his place, but don't call him an asshole. Just saying, Pete. ;)

Sounds like everyone except the cops had guns.In general you can do this but you wouldn't own the gun: it's often a day out with lunch and you use the guns provided. To won a gun (legally) is quite difficult.

I mostly disagree. The citizenry probably shouldn't have bazookas and grenades.

Fix that for ya. If people would just read the 2nd Amendment, it pretty clearly doesn't put restrictions on what "arms" are, because it implies that they are current battlefield capable. That's the whole point behind "A well regulated militia".

It most certainly does make my point. Gun control laws only disarm the law-abiding. Criminals, by their very nature, don't obey the law, so making laws concerning gun control are pointless.
