here A bunch of universities around the world were hacked using SQL injection supposedly. Now some of the names mentioned in this article are fairly big, well known, pricey colleges. You would think they would be able to afford some Admins who had a clue about SQL injection and its prevention on their databases and sites?

Common sense is not a gift it's a curse. Those of us who have it have to deal with those that don't.... Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

Based on many of the questions in Q&A, I'm beginning to wonder whether they have their students writing all the code since most questions seem to be related to students and courses, etc.

      I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

Universities are often stuck in 1890 in many ways. Employing up to date computer security experts probably doesn't come top of their inbox. Allowing SQL injection on your main staff or student database is very poor, though.

No. They're much more likely to buy an off the shelf student record system from a company who would be able to afford some admins who had a clue about SQL injection and its prevention on their databases and sites. (I don't know how this works in the US but there are about 3 major players in this space in the UK)

Reminds me of the time that two other guys and I were talking about geography. The one guy (older) said that he always had a hard time with the subject. Me, being the smart donkey that I am, told him that, "I don't see how that could be Bob. When you was in school all you had to know was 'Pangaea'". I don't think he ever quite forgave me for that one.... :-)

Actually no, I get a headache from going there. As I consider myself on the low end of programming skills still, and even I can see the BS in some of those questions.... I stopped reading them. I mostly just haunt the lounge because I have zero people in the world out there that can talk any kind of tech.(yeah I don't have friends and don't particularly want any either. I work, fix pcs, fix networks, write code, then go home, play tennis with the family and do more code(for me, not for work.)

Common sense is not a gift it's a curse. Those of us who have it have to deal with those that don't.... Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.
