The game is awesome if you like not playing it but watching it trying to connect to servers. I only got connected once, and then the UI controls locked and I couldn't do anything. :mad: On the plus side though it was much easier to connect with customer service than to the game. A coworker of mine was complaining about the same issues. I just laughed at him because he is a huge hypocrite. He says he is waiting to get Windows 8 until service pack 1, so that Microsoft can iron out any kinks that he believes exists, but then he goes and gets this game the day it is released and expects it to be perfect... :laugh: He is sometimes infuriating to deal with, because when he gets his mind set on something, it is impossible to change it no matter how much logic and factual evidence you present to him. It's not a great quality for a software tester to have...

It's even worse when it's your boss. :sigh: I used to work for someone like that, and it was incredibly frustrating - even when it was patently obvious he was wrong, we had to do what he said. He signed the pay cheques (literally - he felt it gave him "better control" over the staff to pay them by cheque, even in the Noughties) so we had little choice really.
If you get an email telling you that you can catch Swine Flu from tinned pork then just delete it. It's Spam.

Arstechnica's preview showed the map maxing out at ~8x8 blocks in size. That's ludicrously small and makes all other problems it has totally irrelevant since the game is already more hopelessly broken than Dwarf Fortresses usability for new players.

I'm surprised that anyone is surprised by the inability to connect to servers. This exact same thing happened with Spore when EA released it. Always on DRM is a mistake. Pirates will always find a way around it and the honest customer suffers. Then again, I don't think that DRM is to fight off pirates but instead is used to tell the shareholders they are doing something to fight off the scary pirates stealing all the money. X|

Many games have been going that direction of late. I doubt the pattern will die out... Just saying. You may be sticking with Sim City 4 then as your only game.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

There are lot of people honestly buying the game, then going to a torrent site and downloading “working” pirated version of the same game.

That actually presents a bit of a moral conundrum. As people that respect the time, effort and money that someone put into their software, we desire to purchase it. Then you can go download the pirated version to be able to play it how you like it. This seems fine, except... By buying the game as is, that encourages them to continue with the path that they're going down of various ever more ludicrous DRM schemes - "hey, they're still buying the game, so let's add more DRM". So, how do you salve your conscience in not getting a piece of software for free, with the desire to ensure that those who made the software are aware of your displeasure, with the knowledge that the only real way to do so that actually gets their attention is to vote with your pocketbook? (Personally, I've gone with boycotting purchasing such software, but as you mentioned people purchasing it then pirating it to play it how they want, I was curious how they deal with this).

Fair point. But the whole thing is kind of a close circle. Because if you REALLY want that game, voting with your wallet is not an option. You are going to buy it anyway.
