My 27 year search is over

Back in 1986 my parents dragged me off to France for a holiday. (What were they thinking, I hadn't done anything wrong.) Anyway, I was surprised that all the music seemed to be sung in English out there, and it meant I listened to a lot of it as it reminded me of home. Two songs I became familiar with was 'Live to Tell' by Madonna (slightly embarrassing writing that) and another one which I could never make out the name of the artist or many of the words apart from 'Hey little girl' in the chorus. I liked that one a lot, but never heard it again when I got back home. Even with the arrival of the internet (mainstream - yes) and Google ten years or so later I couldn't find it. So last night with my wife out and the TV boring me I trawled a French website listing their top 40 for every week from the mid-80s to present, searching for each record and listening to clips to see if that was it. No luck, and I've tried this before. Eventually, Googling the right combination of something like 'Little girl France 1985' (which probably means my name has been put on a list in GCHQ somewhere) threw up a possible result and bingo that was it. Little Girl by Sandra - it was on youtube and it was the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUfap23jfLk[^] Not as good as I remember sadly but still got a nice little melody. Same with video games, never a good as you remember them.

I'd not heard of Sandra before last night, I think she was largely ignored in the UK but had more success in the rest of Europe. Would explain why I heard it so much in France in two weeks and not once in the UK ever again. Married to him out of Enigma for a bit, I read last night.

Turns out that Kawala is him out of The Mimic on Channel 4 - the one who does impressions. Won't make any sense to anyone outside the UK that, so sorry.

Haven't heard this song in years! :) Reminds me of a quest for a song I listened to in high school. Never could find the album or single, but I knew the song's title and artist (even pretty much all the words) for the longest time. Finally found an uploaded copy of the video on YouTube. It was Holiday by Other Ones[[^]] - a one-hit wonder in the US. I've checked a number of sources and still haven't been able to find an official copy of the song for sale. :( Flynn
