No, I'm not talking about the weather... I've got a pretty old Asus Netbook at home. And with each day it's getting hotter when using. Currently running at around 95°C (203°F) and the left side of the keyboard has started to melt... 3-4 cm of the keyboard are nearly unusable now as the keys are just too deformed now  So I was thinking about getting something new. I use it primarily to watch some videos, browsing the web or playing music (but also configuring some network stuff like router etc. so an ethernet port has always been quite handy...) I'm inclined to buy a tablet. However I generally don't like the On-Screen Keyboards for typing. I thought about getting a Nexus 7 or a Surface Pro (which on the other hand is not availble in my country yet) or probably also maybe an ultrabook. Do you have any recommendations? :)

I have a Nexus 7 and it is brilliant. But...I would not try anything input intensive on it, a keyboard works much, much better. I know you can get "proper" keyboards for the Nexus, but I haven't tried them. Lovely screen for videos, music (provided you used external headphones/ earbuds - the speakers are truly horrible), good for email, and "view browsing" but a PITA for answering questions here (the text editing is fiddly and even copy 'n' paste is awkward).

Yeah. That's why I did not want a tablet yet... However a touchscreen also has it's advantages. And I'm also a bit uncertain if I should go for Android or Windows8 ;) I don't like Apple Products in general as those are just overprized... so those are out of question. Even a MacBook Air (where the price is quite acceptable) as I just can't stand the Mac OS.

I turned mine on, installed the updates and then setup Gmail. Got the shits when it created another Google+ account and I put it away in disgust. Might try again this weekend.

I recently felt it was time to replace a 6 year old warhorse of a laptop, and got a custom build from PC Specialist ... probably not relevant if you're not in Britain, but it's a pretty good site.

Any good? I had a quick look at them on fleaBay when I got the tablet, but figured they would be as much a PITA as the on screen jobbie, given that the actual keys are crammed into an area 19cm x 11cm, and I'm used to the desktop 29cm x 11cm. Anything slightly smaller and I keep missing the keys anyway! Plus there is the wear'n'tear on the micro miniature usb connector you need for charging. If only the docking station had fast charge and a "proper" usb port... :sigh:

Just asked the kids, they say they only use it when they have to type a lot. The keys are not sensitive enough so they can't be arse using it.
