Defend what exactly? The right to practice religion as one wants? At least in the US the Supreme Court has upheld that numerous times. Or the right to choose to live ones life as one pleases? Or perhaps you are just noting that these parents seem to have done less than an ideal job with respect to how someone (you?) would like it done? My expectation is that probably 90% of parents do a 'poor' job of raising children. Actually probably even higher than that. But I doubt there is any way to correct for that because it would first require that someone determine the 'best' way to raise a child and I doubt that is possible.

Many children die. And in many cases one can argue that the parents decisions/lifestyle either directly or indirectly was the cause. And there are certainly cases where people both before and after claimed that the decisions/lifestyle was dangerous. Do you need examples?

On the other hand, those kids would probably have been tainted by their parents' insanity, so good riddance.

I suspect there are those that would suggest that a callous statement like that would prove that one was unfit to raise children because of course the children would have the same attitude when they were adults. But of course this goes back to my contention that determining what is 'best' is probably impossible.

In most civilized countries mentally disordered people are never guilty... that should be fairly easy to defend for any average lawyer.

Evidently Freedom of Religion does not cover this, because a court ordered them to stop being such idiots.

Not the Supreme Court. And since the Supreme Court typically only rules on constitutional cases after a lower court has ruled against a citizen, one must of course wait to see how or even if such a determination is made.

Is there a link to this forum? I happened to find it looking through someone's messages but I don't see a way in the navigation to get to it. Perhaps you should report it in bugs and suggs. :)
