Mouse wheel trouble
-
I've got a 5 button mouse that's supposed to be able to do horizontal scrolling by tilting the wheel. It sort of works. I used to be able to horizontally scroll in Excel using the tilt function. Now, when I tilt the wheel, Excel either zooms in to silly percent zoom, or jump to a certain cell. The destination of the jump seems to be random, but if it decides to jump to a certain cell, it will keep going there until you do something else with the mouse like vertical scrolling. Just clicking off the cell then tilting again lands you back on the same jump destination. However, once you do something like vertical scroll, it will jump somewhere else, and keep jumping there till you do something else again. I'm sure this isn't how it used to work. Any ideas, anyone?
Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike... me...

Wow... :omg: I have even got one... but never ever learned to use the horizontal scroll, mostly it becomes a middle click!

Then you must be one hell of a couch potato! Seriously - a phrase like that is worth a thread of its own for off-color comments.

First of all, consider that virtually everything useful with that has wheels and moves has the wheels on the bottom. Your problem is either:
- Mouse is upside - flip over and try using it that way.
- Mouse was made with wheel incorrectly installed: get RMA return for replacement
If neither of the above are successful, you can always make use the mouse cord (or stick on a facsimile on with that left-over porridge) and use for tea-bag.

I sometimes try to scroll in Outlook's preview pane and find the text becomes smaller because it thinks I'm also holding down Ctrl. Maybe you have the same issue with Excel thinking the Ctrl key is pressed? A Ctrl Alt Del should fix it, if that's the case.
I love go-o-o-o-ld!

Or Shift or Scroll Lock. Both mess with excel sometimes.

I did investigate scroll lock but that didn't seem to be it... Thanks for the suggestion anyways. ;)

I certainly haven't pressed the ctrl key, but maybe the key is "internally stuck" or something. Thanks for the suggestion.

Wow, I didn't realize that owning a wheeled mouse was such an awful crime in CP. :( Wasn't too keen on there being far too many buttons on this one, but now that I've got used to it, even the side buttons are actually useful. You wouldn't know it till you tried it...
