It's alive!

For months my personal laptop was just sitting in a corner gathering dust, but since I had my work laptop i wasn't really inconvenienced. Monday last week I got fed up with how many problems I had with trying to setup a Windows 8 VM (using VirtualBox at first, switched to VMWare and things were just a little bit better, but not enough). At that point I was this |--| close to go out and buy a new laptop. Then I thought about how it would be a shame to let the old one just die away without being used, add to that, that I'm going back to Mexico in about a month, and trying to pass 3 laptops through customs along with my other electronics wasn't gonna be all that easy and would end up paying more taxes... So I thought of repairing my laptop instead. All I remembered was that it wasn't booting, so I ran some tests on the RAM and the Hard Drive. The memory test completed successfully, unlike the drive one that failed halfway through. So I looked around for prices on hard drives, I was thinking of getting a 1TB HDD but decided to get a 256GB SSD, and since I was already buying stuff, I got a 8GB RAM module also, which ended up costing around $210 USD total. This was last Friday night, and I kept checking for the location of the package with the tracking number like an excited kid waiting for Christmas, so I knew it would arrive today. Since I always give my office address as the shipping one (since I spend more than half of my waking hours here anyways) I brought my laptop to the office and awaited my special package's arrival. When I got an email from the mail room people that there was a parcel for me, I quickly went to get it, brought it back to my desk and opened it... it was so beautiful... and a beam of light broke the clouds and landed on this magnificent treasure. I've replaced both the old hard drive and the RAM, and it is now ready for my purposes. Now I'm only awaiting 2 more parcels (a Raspi, and Arduino, some ICs, wires, cables, cords, breadboards, etc) but this one was the most important (and most expensive). It is a good day. :-D
