Poor formatting annoys you too?

I was reading an article here on CP - it was hard due too gigantic level of editorial errors (misplaced spaces mainly). So I politely explained the reason behind my vote of 2: "Unfortunately, at its current revision, this article looks like a draft. It contains enormous number of errors: missing spaces, unnecessary line breaks, grammar errors, formatting errors (inline code, lists...) etc. You've clearly put a lot of effort into creating your article. Why ruin it by skipping necessary editorial work? I know that this is the boring part but author has to do it!" This is the priceless response: "Sure, thanks for your valuable suggestion ,ill do it for sure". :) :~ The article hasn't improved much since my remark. Don’t you get the feeling that quality standards on CP are getting lower? It's sad that you can get "excellent" rating even without doing basic editorial work. http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/4593790/My-vote-of-2.aspx[^]

Take this to sugs and bugs, there is no way that article should be out in the wild.

I don't think it is the voting system that are broken, but those doing the voting.

This is the fundamental problem, but one that the voting system doesn't deal with. I'm not sure there is a way to deal with it and keep voting, but it does lead to worthless articles (not that I'm suggesting this one is) often making it up the ranks, which is bad for the site as google seems to take this into account somehow.

Don't! I compare the votes and comments to that, to one of opi, Java Parameterised Expression Evaluator[^] and I despair. Is it because I write articles on Java or because I am literate that I get ignored? :sigh:

This is my most popular article to date: Creating a Bilingual ASP.NET MVC 3 Application – Part I[^] Two years old, linked from here[^] and was on the asp.net home page, under the featured articles. So far it has been viewed ~91,000 times: 39 votes. It's sister article (the one with the actual meat in it, written very shortly after) "only" has 21 votes, less than the article in the OP. Not that I expect huge numbers of people to read or vote, but it this provides a baseline for high "legitimate" (ie devs trying to do something) traffic. It seems the best way to get ahead is to have a circle of family and friends willing and able to upvote any old carp you put out. Google "codeproject Factory Method Pattern" and you'll get a recent competition entry as the first result. The article didn't implement pattern properly, but Google somehow used CP's own ranking to help its results, this is a big problem for CP. Now the forums have effectively been replaced by StackOverflowesque Q&A, the only thing that distinguishes us from SO is the wealth of articles. However, thanks to the finessing of votes, there is no automatic way to get to the good ones first, bad for CP.

I chose a random top God-lick user [Sacha] and a random article for comparative stats:
CodeStash - a journey into the dark side of Visual Studio, or how I lost my hair Posted: 20 Mar 2012 Updated: 20 Mar 2012 Views: 40,462 Rating: 4.94/5 Votes: 66 Popularity: 9.00 Licence: The Code Project Open License (CPOL) Bookmarked: 97 Downloaded: 0 A look into the CodeStash Visual Studio Extension.
Now from the original offender:
The Power of Delegates in C# Posted: 5 Jun 2013 Updated: 19 Jun 2013 Views: 22,441 Rating: 4.86/5 Votes: 30 Popularity: 7.17 Licence: The Code Project Open License (CPOL) Bookmarked: 114 Downloaded: 0 Document describes about the Delegate in C# and the usage of delegate in different scenarios
How can the later be compared, in any way, to the former? Getting a higher vote/hit rate than Sacha makes my eyes go wide. More bookmarks? How? Something, somewhere, smells of fish. And ain't Paris's laundry.

It happens quite a lot now. We've had a few articles from Bangladesh which have been insanely up-voted, pretty much everyone leaving comments is from the same country. I don't even think it is out and out cheating/deliberate vote inflation, I suspect most of it is just people trying to encourage/support their countrymen.

It's definitely not because you write articles in Java but it might be because you're literate. I write I believe reasonably literate articles with C++ code and they too get largely ignored. I've been working on one since February which is a complete draft now and will probably get posted this week. I will promote and cajole as much as I can get away with and fully expect to get 1 or even 2 votes by the end of the year. :sigh:

I know my grammar is far from perfect as I'm neither a native speaker nor a person who has ever lived in English speaking country... But not being a NS should not be an excuse for neglecting basic editorial work. At the end of the day, everything that really matters is content quality. CP should have high standards. Poorly formatted articles should have some well visible notice, maybe something like: "This article's formatting doesn't meet CP quality standards. It will be removed if not fixed!" (well it should be written by NS, I'm not sure about my grammar) ;)

I think you grammar is excellent for a non-native speaker:thumbsup:, I was being facetious as one of my favourite books is 'Eats shoots and leaves' or is it 'Eats, shoots and leaves'? Which I heartily recommend to every English person I meet who shows an interest in improving their grammar.

Well, I wrote some post today about voting, have a look please: http://www.codeproject.com/Messages/4607024/Does-star-rating-work.aspx[^] I agree that the core of the problem are voters not voting system. But lets face it: current system doesn't work :(

I am surprised that, as an Englishman, you refer to that abomination which is the Oxford comma - that is in common usage in the USA - with such fondness. Even Ms Truss herself eschews the usage of the aforementioned crime against grammar.

Well, we invented the bloody thing! Probably the best argument for using it is a TV listing from the Times:
By train, plane and sedan chair, Peter Ustinov retraces a journey made by Mark Twain a century ago. The highlights of his global tour include encounters with Nelson Mandela, an 800-year-old demigod and a dildo collector.
