Don't worry, I am not coming there to steal jobs. :) I can do that from India. ;) I am interested in knowing affects of recent economic conditions on immigration restrictions. Has it become more stricter or easier to sneak in(legally).

It has always been easy (allegedly) to get in here illegally: ask any of the 12 million plus illegal immigrants currently here. It is very difficult to get here legally to work - read this: Working in the US[^]. To become a permanent resident alien (and hence a citizen) is costly and can take years, presumably why so many people enter illegally and take their chances.

Interesting. I don't care about moving there. I just need a US passport to get rid of these visa hassles.

If you want a Passport that'll allow you to visit various countries without getting a visitor Visa through Visa waiver programs, then immigrate to Singapore. That'd be your quickest option :-) You'd need to learn Chinese and/or Tamil to survive there though.

Good luck with that: the earliest you can apply for one is through a Green Card obtained via marriage (three years).

As far as I know, nothing's been changed. And because there are fewer jobs available now, the backlog is actually catching up (of people waiting for their priority dates to become current).

This year the H1-B was filled within a week (65000 visas). That is for entry from October.

Many foreign IT companies (India/China etc.) file H1B Visas but may not necessarily send those employees to the US. It's just a preemptive measure to make sure that if and when a project is live, they can then send these guys right away instead of waiting to get Visas for them.

I have never been able to figure out how people move out of India without going abroad on study visa or going on a work permit on current job and then leaving. For Singapore, I can learn Mandarin.

Through family immigration. US citizens of Indian origin often file family-immigration Visas for their siblings.

It's like India's marriage age laws. Despite laws, so many girls get married off when they are 12-17. Or like the dowry laws.

The amount of security and other things I saw while applying for US visa was way different from other countries I have been to thus far.

Well, they are 2 separate things. The legal immigrants have it tough because of a huge backlog. They have country specific quotas, and people from countries like China and India where the standard of life is low, immigrate in huge numbers. So while someone from Australia waits 2 years, someone from India waits 9 years. The illegals don't follow any of these rules. But it's not a black and white issue. Some of these illegals were sneaked in here by their family when they were under the age of 4. So technically, they are illegals, but morally speaking, they are Americans too. They were raised here, they've never lived anywhere else.

A little wig on my head would make it go down by 20. Rest I can manage with my slender figure. Great, we are talking about illegal sneak in on interwebs. Now what was that agency (or whatever) that knows every breath you take in US?

Well, they are 2 separate things. The legal immigrants have it tough because of a huge backlog. They have country specific quotas, and people from countries like China and India where the standard of life is low, immigrate in huge numbers. So while someone from Australia waits 2 years, someone from India waits 9 years. The illegals don't follow any of these rules. But it's not a black and white issue. Some of these illegals were sneaked in here by their family when they were under the age of 4. So technically, they are illegals, but morally speaking, they are Americans too. They were raised here, they've never lived anywhere else.

                                          Regards, Nish

That probably makes me one of the very few who have no intentions of going to US. I have been there for 10 days and I liked it. But, I don't know, I am not excited to be there. I would prefer going to Sudan that spending life in US for meager material benefits. (I just made a big comment. I may not be able to fulfill it.)
