You'll just end up with two partially charged phones - if you have one full battery and one empty battery and connect them together in some way, they will equalise their charges, with some loss along the way caused by resistance in the cables etc.

Useful when one is about to die. So some share would give some chance to make some important work in it.

If it has got the standard micro usb connector, pretty much any charger that fits is going to work as the voltage/current it part of the spec. The dire warnings about using only "Sony" chargers are there in case you use a cheap adapter, it fails and blows your phone. Because of the warning, you can't get a replacement from Sony. That said, I've used cheap chargers on my phones without problem

That would be great to have Micro USB to Micro USB charging, I wonder whether that is possible? In my case I have Samsung older phone and Sony Xperia. I would love if I could charge Sony from Samsung when needed because I'm a heavy Xperia user and battery is draining fast. But I'm afraid whether they will get damaged if I do so.

Came included with phone, one is even an old HTC cable I had, still worked on the new NOKIA.. Better not do it yourself, probably the specs are not publicly available..

I think what he wants to do is charge one phone from another phone, not with another phone's charger.

Taking the power of one battery to the other battery? Ah, he doesn't have any electrical power then where he is? His computer must be than a laptop with direct satelite connection which will soon have the same problem.. :)

I had this idea since I have one old non smart phone, and I have a SONY XPERIA. I'm just thinking if it's possible to charge one smart from with power from another smart phone.

I wouldn't have thought so. The sockets will probably let power in, but not out. A single transistor in the circuit would ixnay it, and there are probably several.

I think it is more of a conceptual problem. Old phones have batteries that last for days, smart phones last for hours. If you are traveling with both and your smart phone gets low can you top it up with the juice from your old fashioned one?

You mean use the old fashioned one as a charger? I don't believe that would work: the phone plug (which is physically on the device) is only "eating" current, not "getting it out" as far as I know. (could be wrong so)

AFAIK USB cables with two of the same type of end connector (both A (PC/power plug), or both B (device)) violate the standard; and the odds of one of your phones having circuity to drain its battery to charge something else using an invalid cable design are just about nil. It'd add volume and mass; both of which are highly constrained in a phone.

That's only because old phones were used a lot less and used a lot less power when they were used. ex My '04 model year fliphone's OEM battery is only 1.1 amp hours; vs 2.6 for the GS4

The reason for my thought was, the ability that a smart phone can power up a USB Device (e.g. USB Pen Drive) and read it's contents and the ability to charge a phone using a USB power input. I wonder no one has tried this. Who likes to ruin the smart phones... ;)
