I was just in a discussion where the word "Weven" came up as a reference to "Windows 7". I like this and will be using it from now on. Does this mean that "Windows 8" could be "Weight" or perhaps, more aptly, "Wait"? How many other renames of O/Ses could we come up with - derogatory or otherwise?

    - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

Wow, you're well behind the times. We've known Windows 7 as Weven for years now. I believe it was JSOP who christened Windows 8 as Wait. Obviously, we have Wine and When coming up soon.

Win 8 is not funny at all. A better name would have been Windows FP (for Fisher Price), codenamed 'Disneyland', made by Mickeysoft.

I heard a similar argument when XP came out, that it looked like a toy. I would say 8 is more like Windows 2[^], flat, boring, single-tasking. Thanks Microsoft for taking a great OS like Windows 7 (Weven) and turning it into what Windows ME was to Windows 98. They are turning all computers into tablets, which is useless in a productivity environment, works great if all you use a computer for is Movies and Web, but doesn't work for me.

Well, so you know that Apple (Steve Jobs) stole the GUI/mouse concept from Xerox PARC. Larry Kenyon, X-PARC employee, came to work for Jobs and designed the orig Mac Finder. LarryK is my step-Dad's 2nd Cousin (or so a rumor goes...) Well, Xerox tries to sue Apple some 7 years & 3 weeks later for "stealing" their GUI. Judge throws out the case because it was 3 weeks *beyond* Calif's statute of limitations (among other reasons). Apple then tries to sue Microsoft for essentially the same thing, stealing the Mac GUI. Funny, it's the same Judge. He tosses out this case because Apple signed a perpetual license with MS to allow MS to copy the Mac GUI (well, parts of it). Well, along comes Mac OS X. Many think that the "X", being the universal moniker for Unix (HP-UX, AIX, etc.), is because OS X is Unix-based. Not so. Some say was Apple's hidden & feeble attempt to acknowledge they stole the GUI from, you guessed it, Xerox. Bill Gates is all, "No, Steve, let's really fess up. Windows XP is the real-deal." XP stands for Xerox Plagiarized. OK, full of non-truths but, hey, it's a blurb...

Two cheese wheels are rolling down a hill and one, a stilton says to the other, a gouda "some days I roll so fast downhill I win but most days I lose because the tufts of grass slow me down so that I'm barely moving and I come to a stop before the bottom of the hill". To which the the gouda replied "most day's I don't even get out of bed but I get fetched for this dumb race anyway. I never figure out whether I won or not because next thing I know I'm asleep again and then suddenly my alarm goes off." By this time the gouda had begun to pull ahead of the stilton, which had begun bouncing up and down so much that it began to disintegrate. But the gouda had started delaminating. Peels of red wax began to fly up into the air exposing raw cheese. Wobbling now because the wax shrapnel from his departing competitor had knocked it in the side, the stilton was slowing too. Suddenly there came this torrent of noise out of nowhere as loud as twin de Havilland Gipsy Sixes smashing into the side of an eleven story building. The moral of the fable is this. Don't tell a tale that has no end on which to pin a hope of being told. (my candidate for the name of Ned's proposed OS -> "twocheeses")

Windows 8.1 then should be: Wait 1 more. (As we have a start button back, but not our beloved start menu back) Thank you classic shell, Thank you.

I was just in a discussion where the word "Weven" came up as a reference to "Windows 7". I like this and will be using it from now on. Does this mean that "Windows 8" could be "Weight" or perhaps, more aptly, "Wait"? How many other renames of O/Ses could we come up with - derogatory or otherwise?

                                      - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

'Weight' is apt, it has so much bloatware!

Wow, you're well behind the times. We've known Windows 7 as Weven for years now. I believe it was JSOP who christened Windows 8 as Wait. Obviously, we have Wine and When coming up soon.

You are right. The way it looks is secondary, but they took the 'take it or leave it' approach. No compromise. I have a little more to do than movies and web and actually could not care less about toy phones and tablets. And if this company clearly tells me to get lost...
