Great Britain?

We've had some snow! Normally I'd be overjoyed but obviously 2 inches is too much for our authorities to deal with. If no-one's posted this thread before, check this out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2711573.stm[^] Fortunately my part of the country didn't get much, but it's amazing how 'Great' Britain is when there is snow. The London Underground was completely suspended last night, and totally disrupted this morning by the weather. Ok, so most of the Underground isn't underground, but how difficult can it actually be to run trains in snowy weather when you have 3 days warning of the snow? :omg: We've had people trapped on a motorway/freeway in extreme cases for 24hrs. :( If you're thinking of coming to England, do it in the summer!!! :-D Cheers, Barry

It never used to cause that much trouble down here, it's just in the last 10 years when it hasn't snowed the people working for the local authorities have forgotten how to do the simplest of things - picking up a shovel and a bucket of grit and throwing it onto the roads and pavements. :mad: It's just another symptom the general malaise and decay of Gt. Britain. Crap government, crap local government. Crap trains, crap Underground. I could go on ;) Cheers, Barry

So I guess ice would be even worse Don't know about you, but I learnt in physics that a downward force exerts a pressure on the underlying surface, and the pressure causes a temperature rise etc. etc. I just can't understand how ice (in this country, maybe -2C ice) doesn't just get 'squished' back into water? The trains weigh close to 1000 tons for goodness sake!!! It's just like driving a car - brake sooner when it's icy, so the service slows a bit, but not completely cancelled like yesterday!!!! :wtf: We've had 'wrong kind of rain', 'wrong kind of snow', 'wrong kind of weather', and, honest to God, last week, 'your services are delayed because of the wrong kind of Sun' - apparently the setting Sun was reflecting off of buildings and dazzling the poor drivers.... :-D Cheers, Barry

Even Atlanta, GA can expect a little snow every few years. I've never been to England, but a friend of mine who went said it was damned cold, and he was there in July.
