I'm looking for a plastic laminate/acrylic that can be bought in sheets maybe 25mm thick and worked with standard woodworking tools. Does any one know of such a material and where I might find it in the UK. All suggestions greatly appreciated and I wish to make some attachments for my telescope.

Hell I thought it was funny .....

Does someone plan on making their own PC case??? I've seen people do this and submit photographs of their works to MaximumPC (a PC rag found here in the US). Sorry I can't help you locate a source though. Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation

One day I'd love to have one carved out of stone (so it still looks all rough like those James bond villain lairs) with a narrow fish tank as a window on one side with some piranha living in it. That would be so cool – if someone comes round and tries to mess with your PC you can just throw a leg of lamb into the tank and show them what will become of their hand if they dare mess up your settings. :-D The eight processors I’d have should keep the water temperature steady too, so think of the heating charges I’d save.

Have you thought about using Dupont's Corian[^]? It is a composite material that can be readily worked with both hand and power tools. Great stuff! :)

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Most acrylics can be worked with standard woodworking tools. The trick to not cracking the plastic is to have a sharp tool and use a light feed. There are special circular saw blades and drill bits for plastics if you plan on doing a lot of work. Thin sheets of acrylic can be scored and broken like glass. 1" (25mm) thick plastic might be a special order. Standard sheets are 1/2 or 1/4 that thick. Try a hardware store or industrial supply house. You want a bulletproof case? Make it out of Lexan.

Thanks that looks like a great idea. I might even be able to get some offcuts from a local bathroom and kitchen company.
