    As a Pom, I don't know for certain, but I would think Austrailians would respect their heritage as British convicts ;P and swear in English, rather than American. That certainly seems to be the case with their top entertainer, Kevin "Bloody" Wilson. Some time back, there was an American bug-tracking package called "Bugger". They changed the name when someone pointed out the British meaning of the word. Personally, I though the name was perfect - it's first thing I say when I find a bug! :-D OK, only when I'm in polite company!

    Here's an ad for Toyota [^]in Australia. Bugger is a word that has many meanings. It's the context that is important. Just like the word 'bastard' which can be used in so many ways. anger: You bastard difficulty: It's a bit of a bastard to get done friendship: How're ya goin' ya ugly bastard? intelligence: He's a smart bastard plural : What are you bastards up to?         Hmm, I'm guessing as one of them says "phew, bugger me" that it implies that you do indeed take the same meaning as I would. Maybe it's just considered less offensive over there, or something (though again, it's context - someone saying "bugger me" to a child would be totally different) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!
