In my doctor's waiting room there is a screen with a rolling health-based infomercial. In it there is a notice saying that people are allowed a free shingles vaccination on the NHS if they are aged 70 or 79. Your starter for ten is: why those two ages, and why just those two ages? Why not 70 to 79? Why not 70 or 80? I is confused.

The NHS itself is sometimes confused. :)

IIUC, I guess those aged 71 are pretty fucked up if they stick to the 70/79. I mean, should I really wait 8 years to get the vaccine ?

The bit that worries me is the "It's perfectly safe" comment - this coming from a government agency makes me assume that it is a form of euthanasia...

There is a huge number of people in their 70's. An example is that there are over 4 million people in their 70's who still hold UK driving licenses, and that number I suspect is a proportion of those in their 70's. So I guess it would be a difficult to plan and organise for that number in any one year let alone how expensive it would be to vaccinate them all.

I perfectly understood that. I was merely pointing out that the people aged 71 will have to wait 8 years to get their vaccine. Which at 71, can be quite long.

At this sort of age, a lifetime.

Shingles is caused by the same virus as chickenpox; it just manifests itself much more severely as you get older. AFAIK the vaccine is the same one that you give your kids so you can put your tin foil hat away.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. That is confusing because I got a shingles vaccination last year!

You have been given a 5 because you referenced one of the greatest skits known to man kind.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.
