0x8024D001 windows update problem with windows XP 32 SP3

That is brilliant: Windows Update does not start in Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, or Windows 2000 Solution: Turn on Automatic Updates  So, if you can't get the updater to work, run the updater...
The only instant messaging I do involves my middle finger. English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.
It's like the "Windows Help and Support Center could not be started. Would you like to start Windows Help and Support Center?" system message

Hello all, That friend of mine's laptop is giving me more headaches tan the ones I'd like... Now I can't update it... Have you been there and found a solution? the sites that are recommending me to download the latest update manager are not helping a lot... As it is stated in the subject, the error that Windows Update is giving me is: 0x8024D001 And When I'm trying to go to the Microsoft update site a this page appears: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2497281 Any idea? I've just finished sending all the backup data to the laptop and I would hate to reinstall everything again... :sigh: Thank you in advance!

Check the date/time on the laptop. I remember XPs windows update having a problem if the date was wrong by too much.

Already installed... And just to try it I've also updated the Internet Explorer to IE8...

There is the "wait an hour before trying again" - I suspect this is the old "turn it off, wait a couple of minutes and turn it back on" support trick: If it work, they think you're brilliant, if it doesn't, someone else will get the call when they call back...

IE8 from IE7 on Windows XP 32-bit? That would be a feat. (aside) Have you made sure you're not dealing with a rootkit?
