Apparently there's two main reasons if it doesn't show in the store: 1. You're missing a prerequisite update. 2. Your using a version of Win8 that is either: a) Enterprise b) Pro, installed by using KMS activation c) Installed using an MSDN ISO In which case I believe you need the ISO for 8.1 to update.

Your first point seems the most likely, my PC is updated via our WSUS server in the office, will try checking for updates from MS directly.

Wish someone told Microsoft Can't think it, but I've tried a some futile approaches to obtaining a non-eval version of 8.1 that was "just released" in the Windows Store. This link[^] has an "Update now" button, that does nothing other than open my metro style Windows Store on whatever page I last had it open. Can't find it under updates. Can't find it under apps. Anyone else having any luck? EDIT: After updating windows the link mentioned above worked, but I ended up downloading the MSDN version anyway (for redistribution purposes)

      Apparently! But in real...

I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is (V).

[Heavy sarcasm] Gotta love the forcibly full screen "apps" and the beautiful metro tiles. [/Heavy sarcasm]

MSDN? The 8.1 update didn't show up in the Windows Store for me either. I had to download it from MSDN Subscriber Downloads. I downloaded 3.5 GB in about 20 minutes, so I cannot complain.

I just went to Microsoft.com and they had a big banner. I installed it on one of my test machines. The install mostly went fine until it got to the interactive setup; instead of simply using the features and user account already there, it gave me some rather confusing options. Once installed, I didn't notice any difference (I'm used to the start screen and don't care about having a pseudo start button and I don't understand how lazy people can be when wanting to boot to the desktop--you really can't just click on the massive desktop tile or press the Windows key?)
