Whilst I don't appreciate what he is doing, there is nothing really wrong with it. He's contacted us privately, made no demands, and he was polite in his request. I don't think the unsolicited nature is enough to justify breaking his confidentiality on it's own. If he had been abusive or asked me to notify him of my objection (opt out rather than in) then I would not have taken that step.

I considered flaming his ass off, but then realized that he has no idea what our email addresses are unless we reply. Being blessed with an essentially evil mind, I immediately stumbled upon a plot to harvest the emails of thousands of programmers in order to sell them inflatable dates and herbal Viagra substitutes. All you have to do is slam a website for software professionals with unwanted requests to use their code in your private distribution CD. That will piss them off so badly that they'll all immediately write back to you about what a jerk you are, and you'll have your mailing list right there in your Inbox for no cost at all! Isn't that a great idea? Oh wait, I think someone may already have thought of it... Damn. Grrrrr, I didn't think of that either. Do you think it would be possible to email him back again (maybe from a different address), telling him that he cannot send unsolicited email to the email address at my work (which was what I sent him the original "NO" from)? i doubt he's even looking at the replies he's getting. from the sounds of it, most people here are saying "no. go away." but he keeps sending more. -c
