Aye, and I have the added benefit of living in some kind of an archaeologically obsessed theme park, despite no-one managing any great digs since the 70s or 50s even. Better are the internecine wars between the local post-processualists and the local new archaeology rivals. At least they new archaeologist don't punch horses when the sondage fails to turn anything up I suppose.

Oddly enough, I played the sport in high school. It's a wonderful sport, but I also get tired of the mindless drivel that most people who never played it go on and on about.

I guess this applies to Nancyball as well, but the article is about proper Association Football. ;P

I know how you feel. My forte has always been restoration comedy, but it gets sidelined by the bloody diggers!

Hey now, it takes a real man to wear a ton of plushy, comfy, padding before heading out on the field. :-D

yes. But it's so much worse than that. Ya know what's even worse? How we sound to civilians when talking about this stuff.

I remember playing rugby out in California back in 1999. Time and again players would tell us how they started playing for training or recovering from a 'Football' injury. They never went back. This[^] sums it up.

Just started playing American Football after retiring from Rugby, take from that what you will!

In all seriousness, the upside to wearing the pads did help me be more liberal and not care about slamming into guys. Then again, I never played Rugby so maybe they donn't care about slamming into guys there either.

It's very exaggerated, I've not heard football mentioned in the office today and it isn't most days. The Premier League title was decided at the weekend and no-one was talking about it yesterday, either. We did talk about it at the tennis club but that's reasonable. The media does make a bigger thing of Premiership football than is reasonable, imo (though I think La Liga in Spain is worse), but it's not like it's the only game in town. F1, snooker, rugby, cricket and darts, to name a random selection, also get plenty of TV time, big buildups and so on. Newspapers are worse at only covering football, it is true.
