The one that touches the monitor screens? or the one that doesn't? You might think it's not a big deal. But I really get pissed off if someone touches the monitor's surface just to point something out there. A guy here presses deep into the LCD and says "THIS!" is the problem. I feel like saying "If you don't take the finger off my screen, your finger would be in problem." But seriously, I've at least really requested some of them here not to do it. -humbly. I've ignored these many times. But when I do, after switching off the monitor if see a mess of dirty fingerprints, I get totally annoyed. :| Some dudes go farther & use the back side of pen/marker to point out a line of code that might be causing a problem. The funnier side of it - the little cousin I have around here, tries to do the same. When he does, I stop him & teach him some gadget-manners - i.e why we shouldn't touch computers/Notebooks screens so hard ,etc. He listens & waits only to ask me back the same question when I'm using my tablet. The grumpy kid certainly feels I'm a Hypocrite. :)

This seems like some pretty bad d*ickish behaviour. Who the hell uses ink on a screen?

I don't, because my monitors are too far away to reach without leaning forward. Also, my skin is naturally a bit greasy so I leave fingerprints on devices if I touch them with my fingers, and that's bad so I don't. I do touch it with the blunt end of a pen or pencil when I'm pointing things out to colleagues, though. If you can't see the fingerprints until you turn the screen off then really, no, it's not a big deal.

We've used touchscreen toughbooks here for years, I always have one or two on my desk. Generally use a finger, a stylus, or the back end of a pen to jab away at the screens. Problem is I then start jabbing away at the monitor of my desktop too, always takes a few prods before I realise it's never going to work. Lots of the engineers use the business end of pens to work their toughbooks because they always lose the styluses. Some of the screens have so much ink on them it can be hard to work out what is supposed to be showing.

Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

NEVER, what kind of monster would do that? It's like touching someone's glasses - don't do that. I used to understand though, with a CRT the "picture" is much further away than the glass, so if you try to stop at some distance from it you can still end up poking it. And CRTs were sturdy and easy to wipe off anyway. But now with flat screens? If you touch it, fuck you. You can clearly see where it is, wiping the non-glossy ones is a pain, and poking them hard enough can cause damage.

I have NO trouble telling people I'll cut off their finger if I see them do that again.

My peeve is when people refuse to actually say something about XYZ they're trying to convey, but rather most hover over you to tell you where to click, while you act as the brainless extension of their mind, simply because they can't communicate and they lock up and don't know what to say unless they make you point and click for them. Communication is a lost art in the information age.

Since I process photos on my monitor I don't, nor do I let anyone else touch my screen. Barney Rubble was the last one to touch it. :)

I've often wanted to create a hybrid LCD/Van de Graaff generator to help make the fingers off point for me.

To click, or not to click? That is the question.
