When I'm Remote Desktop'ing into a Win 8.1 computer, the options for restarting the computer seem restricted. On the Start screen, the only options that it gives are to log off, and to hibernate or sleep, but not to restart the machine. Does anyone know how to remotely restart a Windows 8.1 machine using Remote Desktop?

The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Try this: Open run window. Execute shutdown /i. You will get an UI to restart/shutdown the computer...

Skipper: We'll fix it. Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this? Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

You can also Alt-F4. That'll bring up the shutdown/restart options as well on a remote desktop session on 8.1.
