Instead of holding world cups like this, there should be a cricket season where every country plays every other once at home, and once away in a Test match and in an ODI. Then the best 4 teams play a best of 5 series in a semi-final; and the winners play a best of 7 final series. In the game as is done today, the best team in the game could be beaten in the final or semifinal. In 1983, chances of India winning a best of 7 or best of 5 was remote. Similarly, Pakistan would have fared much better in the previous world cup finals. My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

It is a nice idea for the sport itself but there is just one major problem... ok two: Spectators and sponsorship. Holding the CWC in one country is key for the right spirit. If you spread it all over the world then fans have to travel long distances and frankly they won't, far too much travelling between each game. Also sponsorship will be stretched to the max. Sponsors will have to discuss not just with one governmnent but 20 now. Each one demanding different rules, regulations etc. Each sponsor will need a team to handle their sponsorship in each country, rather than just one big team in one country. Cricket the sport has to sacrifice some ideals for Cricket the game.
