Yes! There's definitely a future in flipping burgers...;P It is ok for women not to like sports, so long as they nod in the right places and bring beers at the right times.

I need to start doing something similar. So, basically you cut out the middleman and pocket all the money or are your rates lower? Also, got any pointers about where to start or what "type" of company to choose for this sorta stuff? Jeremy Falcon Imputek

Jeremy Falcon wrote: Also, got any pointers about where to start or what "type" of company to choose for this sorta stuff? i'm not much of an accountant, so i can only tell you how it works for me, as an "S" corporation. i'm the president, and treasurer and sole employee, of the corporation. all money that the corporation earns belongs to the corporation (and you have to be strict about this). so, from the income of the corporation i pay myself a monthly salary. this is a normal salary, and i have to deduct SS, FICA, state and federal income taxes, state and federal unemployment, etc from the gross (some of these are on the corporation side, as the employer and some are on the employee side). a lot of these are things that your employer would normally pay (including half of the total SS+FICA: which works out to 7.5% of gross). at the end of the year, i give myself a W-2 and I could even draw unemployemtn against my own business. once a quarter, i take a lump-sum profit distribution from the corporation, roughly equal to 2/3 of my gross salary for the 1/4. this money is taxed at the normal rate, except i get to skip the employer's part of the SS+FICA (again, 7.5% of gross). that 7.5% is the greatest benefit of having an S-corp (in my case, anyway). but, you can't take all your money as a distribution, you need to have a salary that's at least as much as what you take in distributions (the IRS has a preferred ratio that they want you to follow, i just do what my accountant tells me). so, for this contract job, they'll pay my corporation and i'll draw a salary as an employee of my corp. then, in a couple of months, i'll take a big chunk of money from the corp, and save myself 7.5% SS+FICA. i'm not sure how it works for other business types. an S-corp is trivial to set up and pretty easy to run. my accountant handles all of the tax stuff for me. -c

Yeah, if there is a rain god and she's listening, someone tell her that we've had enough of her non-sense now. What's she got against SA, I demand to know. Spoiling a perfectly good match every time. Damn, I have finished chewing my nails, and a second course of pencils was on, when the rain started. The suspense is going to kill me. If it was a movie I would have asked someone what the end was. 40 runs off 30 balls!

First time? Handing in your notice is a funny thing. Its at this point you find out what people think of you. Good luck. benjymous wrote: any programming jobs going in the midlands? Nope. In London though.
