That is a bit too black and white. It is not a binary choice
Actually, I agree. Humans are a social species - our strength only shows it self when working as a commune(ity). My observation is that employers would exploit their workers to any degree they can get away with if not stopped by laws (or unions). My observation is that employees would like to not work at all for more money then they already are getting. Admittedly, there are some of us who do what we do because we enjoy it - and they pay us - but most people don't like what they're doing. The power of Unions - that protected workers - protected them out of their jobs in many (former) US Industrial areas (such as Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and steel making, NY city garment district, Southern USA furniture manufacture, etc.) Somewhere is the proper balance. It needs to be designed by good people and adopted by good people. I'm not holding my breath.

Why not may 12th? Or better still, August 27th? Or, if we're really into making people celebrate other peoples idea of a holiday, why not close everything for your birthday? Or, presuming your view stems from a political view of "May Day", consider the following:* Marx, Engles, etc. were brilliant.

- It failed
- Time for everyone to get over it

Not everyone realizes this. That's why the experiment is still going on. Unfortunately, nobody graded them, and gave a score card. Or, they don't want to be graded :-)

We can, but an other law says to not waste food (or other perishable good). Therefore everything that has to do with food is open, also services that guarantee proper care for injuries and so on have to be open for the case. The problem is, that basic goods must be suppliable 24/7. Therefore we never will be able to get a 100% workfree day :|

You cant outrun the world, but there is no harm in getting a head start Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

What if on a holiday I wouldn't want to cook and eat at a Fast Food? I couldn't, the Fast Food wouldn't get money. Not only that but most supermarkets reamin open with reduced opening times, mostly because if everything should close on Sunday and holidays most of the people wouldn't be able to access to them - meaning there would be less revenues, less markets/restaurants. Well, a nice punch to thos Capitalistic dastards? No, just a lot of unoccupied clerks, cooks, cleaning personnel and so on.

}"Basic goods" don't have to be supplied 24/7: until the end of last century it was very normal for all shops in the UK to be shut all day Sunday, half day on Wednesday, and only small "corner" shops would be open past 18:00. It just takes a little organisation on teh shopper's part. More important than "basic goods" are services: hospitals, old folks homes, police, fire, ambulance. Emerganecy cover is also needed for some phones, water supplies, electricity, and gas. Even the military must operate 24/7 or countries would be invaded at 18:00 on Friday, and wouldn't be able to respond until Monday morning!
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Yeah you got me wrong on that. I meant not the retailers, but the ones transporting it. And also i said that services need to operate 24/7 where i also implied hospital, water, energy and all of that. I mean, shops have closed on sundays everywhere i was, so that's just normal, but food transports are allowed and have to drive on sundays :)

Possibly but then we'd have to cook for ourselves instead so how's that a holiday for us? And why stop at McDonalds and KFC? Why should their workers get the privilege but not Wendy's or Taco Bell or Pizza Hut? Or, come to that, nurses, police, fire services, coastguards, the navy, TV and radio, baseball players .... well, you get the idea!

I could survive if they closed there doors permanently! Don't visit either one.
New version: WinHeist Version 2.1.1 new web site. I know the voices in my head are not real but damn they come up with some good ideas!

My birthday IS a national holiday in the country I was born in :-)
Skipper: We'll fix it. Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this? Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.
