I've quit smoking cigarettes, today is day 18  The NHS recommend rewarding yourself for the getting through the first day, week and month, and the reward should cost roughly what you have saved, so for the first day I got a take-away, for the first week I got a CP mug (came today!), but I don't know what I should get for the end of the first month. Suggestions anyone? Around £130...

but I don't know what I should get for the end of the first month. A chest X-ray? (OK, that was really cruel). Congratulations, BTW! Not easy to do. Take yourself out to a nice dinner or go to the theatre or symphony, might be nice. Donate the money to the local smoke-enders, cancer society, or other charity. Do you have kids? Put in into an account for them. Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

Get yourself a video game, a basketball, or something else fun that you would enjoy. And relish it as something you now have the time to do now that you've not only saved money but time as well from not having to go out every hour or so for a cigarette break.

Congrats on your success. I think a good thing to do with the extra money is to save it. Keep doing that month after month and it should grow quite a bit in several years. I'm curious about your smoking story though. I mean, how did you start, how long were you at it, how much were you smoking when you quit, etc... I'm always curious as to how people can turn smoking into a once-an-hour or once-every-half-hour necessity. I personally enjoy smoking. But I treat it just like eating sweets -- with moderation. It's something I like but I know it's not good for me. So I do it infrequently. I'm just amazed at how people can get into it so heavily. Thanks for sharing, Alvaro

Lol yeah, I think this covers most people... "I went outside to smoke a fag but was so pissed I fell over and got the damned thing stuck to my fanny - gave me quite a good rogering" American translation: "I went outside to dispatch a gay person with my S&W .357 but I must have had one too many Bud's with my work colleagues as I ended up falling onto my bottom, whereby I engaged in sexual intercourse with a man." British translation: "I went outside for a quick drag on me ciggy like, but those bloody buggers down the student bar musta served me dodgy booze like so I only went an' fucking dropped the bloody thing down between me arse cheeks didn't I. Blimin' good job I didn't 'ave that curry last nite though, almost farted and took me 'ead off." (well technically fanny is a polite version of tw-hat, which I think is itself global, and I made up both translations of rogering, so sue me)

                    1. Buy yourself a set of tar damaged lungs that have been donated to medical science, store them in your fridge together with a packet of cigarettes, and look at them every hour. You'll feel much better for having stopped. 2. Give the money to me. You'll feel much better for having stopped. 3. Buy loads of fags and have a big party. You'll feel much better afterwards, but will probably pick up smoking. ;) Seriously, donate the money to your nearest Marie Curie or McMillian care group (whichever one it is that cares for the people who are dying). You may not feel much better for having stopped, but someone somewhere who couldn't will for a few hours.

I get the grey head when I forget to or am unable to change my display name in the little text box at the bottom of the posting page. In the lounge, you cannot change the display name, so I always get the grey head here. So it's not really sorted out completely, but Chris has a lot of other more important work to do, so I am being patient. :)

That is why they have fannypacks or as we say bumbags.

At high school, aged 13, peer presure etc. etc. Within a couple of months I had gone from sharing a cig with friends once or twice a week to being on a couple a day. Hell, I enjoyed smoking, but at the end of the day, I enjoy life even more. If your thinking of stopping, I recommend nicotine patches - they really help. My girlfriends taking to calling them "sanity patches"
