What's with CP and Astronomy?

Sure, but that's not what most articles are about. There's a lot of IT in production lines too, but I don't see articles about that :)

M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

Yes I understand that, but each achievement obtained in that fields is at least partly due to the technology, so it makes sense - much more sense than the thousands of articles summarizable in "<person with big ego> states <technology> is <dead | the future | wrong | misunderstood by everyone besides me>". Of course this is my personal view :)

You may note that I said some of it is crap. People do seem to be getting their knickers in a twist that I don't find it all to be a diamond of the highest order.

Well, that is knicker-twistable indeed! I agree though, the astronomy posts are crap ;p Not that the Insider peeps should listen to that, you can't please everyone and overall I'm pretty pleased :)

I guess because IT people are more interested in it than other crowds? Apart from Asterologist crowds, of course

Astronomy in the lounge I can live with, but why is it in the Insider newsletter? It takes up precious space where IT related news could be...

This could be due to my misinterpretation of Kent's instructions. Either he said he "sometimes" throws a space/science article in the Developer News, or "usually" does. I took this to mean, "throw a sciencey one in there every day, Sean." I may or may not have just revealed the secret sauce. I apologize for gussying up the Insider with too much science. Kent returns for Monday's Insider and I will prepare for the newspaper flogging I am sure to receive. I will, of course, pretend to have no idea what he's talking about while looking increasingly guilty and sad as he points to threads like this one. "This Sean. Did you do THIS? BAD SEAN."
Thanks, Sean Ewington CodeProject

   Don't worry, this has been on my mind for months (if not years). Today (actually yesterday) was the day I decided to say something about it. Why yesterday? Who knows. You're just in the wrong place at the wrong time :)

The Insider is for CP members and caters to their interests. As pro geeks, most of us are in to computers, science, science fiction, and related stuff. Astronomy is 'related stuff'. We think it's cool. As far as "IT related news" goes, the Insider covers that the majority of the time. If you don't like the non-IT bits either ignore them or unsubscribe from the Insider.

Don't flog yourself (unless you're into that sort of thing). I like the science-y bits.

I subscribe to a production newsletter where 70%-80% of the content is IT related. So, what are you complaining about?
The difficult may take time, the impossible a little longer.

I'm guessing, but there is probably one heck of a lot of IT used in modern Astronomy...
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...
My daughter can attest to that. She has a doctorate in astronomy. Her thesis involved writing software for adaptive optics.

Contrary to popular belief we IT folks can be productive too
