My mom has both of these drives on her new Dell Dimension 8250. The DVD works flawlessly in all aspects - has since she got it. But she says that the CD drive has never worked, ever. I just checked, and surely enough, there is no CD-RW drive shown under My Computer. (Yes, it is physically there, and yes, everything is plugged in correctly). Does anyone know how to get XP to recognize this 2nd CD drive? The bios settings are correct, and I thought that XP was great at recognizing CD drives. Perhaps there is something wrong with the hardware... Anyway, any input would be appreciated. Jon Sagara I have no complaint with the “mentoring concept” or the marriage concept or the sex concept. But if you pay for any of those, something’s wrong. -- John T. Reed in The real estate B.S. artist detection checklist [^]

If you have another computer there, move the CD-RW to that computer and see if it's recognized there. If not, return it. --Mike--    THERE IS NO     THERE IS NO    BUT THERE IS MAGIC PIXIE DUST  BUSINESS GENIE  CODE PROJECT :bob: Homepage | RightClick-Encrypt | 1ClickPicGrabber "Which comes first, the bug or the stress?" -- Chris Maunder

Jon Sagara wrote: The bios settings are correct Are all the drives identified correctly by the bios, hard/cd/dvd etc, either during the boot process or in the setup screens? It may be jumpers, dodgy cables...

          1. Sometimes when people install new drives, they forget to change the slave/master jumper on the back of the drives. Only one can be master, one slave. 2. Check the System control panel under hardware, for any conflict indicators (yellow ! ). 3. My XP Pro box recognizes the DVD-ROM on installation, but requires the driver cd installed to recognize the DVD burner drive.
