I am with you 100% and the last time i worked on a project where they kept baning on about coding standards, well the job was over engineered and after 2 years a $3m project got thrown in the bin. This little baby ended up as 12 solutions, not projects, solutions and it took a day of hacking the registry just so you could run a copy on your own PC. Programing if you are good is an art and not a science.
