I'd enjoy knowing what you may be planning (imagining) what you'll buy/upgrade-to in the next year. I anticipate that sometime in 2016 I will get a tablet, probably one of the newer jumbo-sized wonders (that choice influenced by declining vision), and, definitely, a new monitor. I doubt I'll upgrade my current main-beast (Z97-D3H, i5-4670K, based) this year, although I will definitely bump the memory up to 32 gigs when/if DDR3 @1600 memory takes another significant step-down in price. Yeah, you can tell, I'm not a gamer. I wouldn't mind an MS Win "Book," but, the price is way too high for me to consider. Going to sell my (once high-end) lap-top, and not get another one. Just don't need it. Software ? No plans for "work;" for "hobby: try out (possibly buy) the GuitarToMidi conversion software from JamOrigin, when/if they get it upgraded to support alternate tunings. Windows 10: maybe around June, when it might be no longer a "beta in drag as release," and, when its intrusive user-monitoring is de-fanged. While all this could change should a "client" fall from the sky, and I was offered some interesting work, I doubt that will happen, and I don't need that to happen to over the "basics," and am not looking for that. I got novels to finish :) cheers, Bill

Now that my significant other has a nice new laptop with the latest high-speed WiFi I plan to upgrade the WiFi in the house and add ipV6 capability at the same time. Eventually AT&T will deploy ipV6 locally. Someday they might add fiber to the home if Google doesn't beat them to it.

I have a surface pro 3 with a modest little i7 and 8 gigs. It is fine for development, and weighs less than one kilogram. Don't buy a laptop unless you cannot afford a powerful-enough tablet, 'cause the tablet is handy.

I have a 4-year-old laptop with similar specs. I want something with a late-model processor, so I can play around with some of the modern instructions (some of them could substantially speed up programs that I write for recreation). The only problem is that I can't really justify upgrading it just for that purpose. :sigh:

I am going to upgrade my PC (AMD Athlon X4, 4GB refreshed with a 500GB SSD and Nvidia 960 in 2015) with a new Skylake i5, 16GB RAM and a motherboard with the Z170 chipset most likely [this Gigabyte model](http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5485#ov). Been using my company laptop for most work, so the long-in-the-tooth-PC was sufficient for development/gaming outside working hours. Up for replacement is the Samsung Note 2 which has been working well for the past couple of years. Taking the plunge with the Lumia 930 or 950, though I lean toward the newer model (SD card support). On the wish list is a Raspberry Pi 2 to tinker with some hardware :) One more for the wish list if I get crazy this year might be a Pebble Time Steel, really a smartwatch with the features I like, and sufficient battery time. Since I'm spending money on a watch, why not get a smartwatch for the same price :)

If someone releases a smartwatch that 1. lasts more than a day 2. works with the iPhone 3. has sensible functionality 4. isn't stupid expensive 5. doesn't try and look like a "classic" watch (what is the point of that?) then I'll grab it.

          cheers Chris Maunder

For the same reasons (except number 2) I am considering a Pebble watch. It works with iPhone according to their site. It uses e-ink which I find preferable to the LCD\OLED offerings.
