    (7 + 6 + 7) < (8 + 3 + 4)?

There's a reason it's 8 3 4 and not 15, you can't just add the number of bronze medals to the number of gold medals etc. Gold comes first, then silver and finally bronze.

:-O You're very right, I missed that... Seems a bit of a misleading title, at least to me.

That's how it is with the missus and me. I generally take silver. Who is this bronze person?

Well sports stats - if you've nothing better to do with your intellectual capital (or lack thereof) you spout and permute and then spout again the latest sports statistics, compared with old ones if available. Basically, it's on par with a monologue on the variations in the tone of toilet flushing as a function of altitude and content. ( i.e., who's really listening?).

A more accurate measure is medals per head of population Olympic Medals per Capita[^]

I thought that about Jamaica, but thanks for the stats, they do show how some nations lower down the medals table deserve acclaim.

Significance? A breakdown of the results by a different metric, as someone else did doing it by population.

Playing? Great. Fun, exercise, teamwork, &etc. Watching Professionals? A waste of vision. When my kinds were little, I'd go to the occasional game - but to me it was all for their fun. Calling out scoring and play types for a sport different than that which they were playing (basketball: watch out! He's stealing second!). It's supposed to be, above all, fun. Add to your list, should you be keeping one: along with my contempt for professional athletes is my contempt for actors/actresses/and such celebrities.
