Move over Apple...

MS is reporting that the Surface Pro and Surface Book are selling well enough, despite the prices. So, there's gotta be a market for them. That said, I don't see anyone buying MS hardware because of brand name fanaticism.

Um... xbox. Hello? And in the PC world that has more to do with the fact that MS is primarily a software company. Kinda hard to play favorites to something that only recently started with tablets.

I'm glad to see Microsoft pushing into hardware - competition is good for all of us. Given the generally high prices on Microsoft's new gear I'll be interested to see if the folks here in the Lounge that usually bash Apple for their prices will be honest with themselves and also bash Microsoft or will hypocrisy prevail? My money is on hypocrisy.

I wouldn't dream of bashing ms over that piece of useless, overpriced cr@p.

Apple fiddles; Microsoft reaches for Apple's discarded creative crown[^] ... and just when I started doing Xamarin development :suss:
Wow. microsoft's "Graphic Artists First!" wu mao campaign has started strong. I wonder how much that article cost them.

I didn't see people buying MacBooks or iMacs because of brand fanaticism either but plenty of people think they did just because they think Apple prices were too high.

I don't think bringing a gaming console into a discussion about computer hardware helps you make your point.
I beg to differ.

So you've never encountered any discussion where Apple is compared basically with a religion?
I know I have. And I know I've encountered the same about MS here on CP.

Only where the group consists of Apple bashers who think it's a religion for whatever reason. I've heard that some Apple fans can be over the top but I've never actually seen it.

Bringing IP cameras into a discussion about computer hacking is pretty pointless, too.

No, but they might because they foolishly believe that there's a better than 40% chance that ms hardware will still work, after the next windows update.

I don't own a console, but based on everything I keep reading, I'd say more people claim MS has dropped the ball with the latest Xbox than those who don't.
I'm not big into gaming these days, but I can totally agree with that.

I honestly can't say I've ever met anyone though who gets a hard-on from MS in the same way some Apple users do.
I have. Plenty man. Anyway, I think any rational adult will find both faults and good things in both companies. If we were only rational adults.

I haven't been into gaming for a decade (at least), but I still make an exception every couple of years when a new GTA installment comes out for the PC (I've put together brand new machines for it and it alone) :-) I'm still not getting anybody's console though. Though if I had to pick one, I'd pick the Xbox only because I hate Sony with a passion. So it's not exactly something MS should be proud of.

I thought so too, and yet Nintendo announced this, NES Classic Edition[^] . I must have this. It must be done.

MS will eventually fail every user of theirs, big time, at one point or another. Anyone expressing the same religious fervor about MS as some Apple fanatics do has to have something wrong with them. :-) And I'm saying this as someone who: (a) Would never give Apple a penny (b) Has made a living off of MS's platform all of his life (c) Has worked for a company that got acquired by MS and made a decent profit in the process

Nice. Doesn't that say a lot though that the most desirable gaming console is one that's what, 30+ years old? Heck I'd buy a brand new Commodore 64 if I could. :-) [Edit] Had to laugh at the trailer: "Revisit retro gaming's greatest icons in HD" Having every game pixel blown up 10x doesn't "make it HD". Still - at $60, including 30 games, it's a no-brainer. Never had a NES, but I just might get one.
