He was speaking English, so the translation problems may have been his.

That's kind of interesting - do you have any links explaining what actually happened? For example, the issue with the Iraqi missiles that were supposedly lauched at (or near) Kuwait in the first day or two. If this didn't take place what then happend? Was it faulty US missiles, and just goofs/friendly fire (this certainly wouldn't be the first time this has happened)? ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Real Mentats use only 100% pure, unfooled around with Sapho Juice(tm)!

On the rocket thing - what I found googling[^] (although they all sound very biased*): "Associated Press reported on March 22 that "Maj. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the vice director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon news conference that the Iraqis have not fired any Scuds and that U.S. forces searching airfields in the far western desert of Iraq have uncovered no missiles or launchers." *) I spent quite some time of my life determining the correct shade of grey from "it's white"/"it's black" news - and I have the eeerie feeling I'm in it again. Not trusting anyone is an easy, but destructive point of view - I don't want to take it anymore.

I could imagine pencils that, when you try to use them, say "surrender" in arabic, or play Britney Spears, or "Always Coca Cola". Yes, that would be very american. But booby traps? no.

Holy crap folks, this just in: "...coalition forces were throwing booby traps in the form of pens and pencils into Iraqi villages and townships"[^] WTF??? How does anyone take this crap seriously? This is like reading headlines from the National Enquirer (Enquiring Minds Want to Know)! How does any journalist (even the Arab ones) take stuff like this seriously? Next thing we'll be accused of is throwing rotting eggs and leaving Whoopee cushions behind. Did somebody do "The pen is mightier than the sword joke" yet? Michael 'War is at best barbarism...Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell.' - General William Sherman, 1879
