Before SARS, i wouldn't think much when going out but now i would really think twice.:~ Even if i go out, it isn't the same as before. I don't know why, but i would be more careful about the environment. Also, the town isn't as busy and crowded as before. :omg: How's your situation in your country? I've heard on the news that there are couple of people in the UK who have contracted it. Must be bad to be in Hong Kong though. One guy I work with is sure he's going to get it, and even thought he had a temperature yesterday  Shame... sad....

It's much better than the term "embedded," though. I'm tired of hearing about embedded reporters. That must be a lousy job, like having a career as a suppository. - Roger Wright

A few cases with travellers coming back from Asia, other than that, good information (even though the w*r makes the headlines), but "keeping the ball low", i.e. it isn't perceived as a threat (for here), but a serious issue for asia. (However, statements like "Malaria is much more of a problem" is reasonable from our POV, but not very helpful for the people over there, I think) Just browsed over a report about the global internetted research to find a cure. good luck to you. :rose:

The mortaility rate is about 4% - not very high for flu given that we are dealing with people with preexisting health problems or the elderly. The transmisibility is very low - basically you need to be sneezed upon to catch it. It doesn't travel through air conditioning or by touch. More people died in HK by commiting suicide last week than died of SARS. I perfectly know that.. However, death, and "masking out mortality" is a highly subjective thing - so an objective assessment is helpful, but no full solution. OT: I like your blog!

Yet again an example of the media making something small into a sensational issue and instilling panic in people. A little perspective please. For example, in the US alone, there are 400,000 smoking related deaths a year. Source: http://www.streetlaw.org/youthact/tobacco/responsible.html[^] Where's the media sensationalism? Where's the public panic? How many millions of Chinese die each year from smoking related deaths? Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

I do believe I raised the quirky coincidence here more than a week ago. But nobody listens to me :~ So, anyone else here that stayed up the whole night working? I'm getting a second wind after about 14 Vanilla Cokes

Before SARS, i wouldn't think much when going out but now i would really think twice.:~ Even if i go out, it isn't the same as before. I don't know why, but i would be more careful about the environment. Also, the town isn't as busy and crowded as before. :omg: How's your situation in your country? Weiye, Chen When pursuing your dreams, don't forget to enjoy your life...

No reported cases of it over here yet... Hopefully there won't be. Regards, Brian Dela :-)

A few years ago SARS mutated from a fumbling, corrupt and incompetent organisation into a leaner and more lethal strain. Now nobody is safe, not even the very rich. People have been put in jail because of SARS. Consultants have offered me ways of getting around SARS, but I have refused, counting myself as a good South African and not one to cheat the system. I will pay my due and live with it. In fact without SARS, South Africa would crumble. Yes, the South African Revenue Service is indeed a bitch. My apologies. Was not meant to offend. Just that South Africa has been chuckling quitely to itself everytime the newspaper or TV runs a headline like "SARS wreaks havoc in Hong Kong." or "Londoners hide from SARS." As for the virus, there was a scare here a few days ago but other doctors have labelled it as paranoia. I hope HK can beat it and it does not spread further.
