And the amusing thing is that this book is what, 30 21 years old? And it's still relevant. Shows you how much all these paradigm shifts have really accomplished. Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

Yep. That's because most of the problems we face in software development are human-related issues, not technical. It's just that most people haven't figured that out yet.

Seems like we've had 100 years of Freud et al and we haven't gotten anywhere on the human-related issues either. Marc Help! I'm an AI running around in someone's f*cked up universe simulator.

Freud wasn't a software development manager (good grief - can you imagine what it would be like if he were!). We're not talking deep and meaningful here.

Uh, well, we always got on ok i guess, except - Hey! I'm telling you, it's just a stupid little error, i was in a hurry.Freud:
Ah, i see... Very interesting... the error is 'little', and you were rushed... Did she criticize you in front of your father?Programmer:
Huh? Hey, what are you implying?Freud:
Nothing, nothing... Tell me about your father, how did you see him?Programmer:
All right, that's enough! I've fixed the bug & checked in the change. OK?Freud:

The Forty Ships Theory was alive and well last time I had a real job. I assume that hasn't changed, as managers display no sign that they've gotten any smarter.:( "Please don't put cigarette butts in the urinal. It makes them soggy and hard to light" - Sign in a Bullhead City, AZ Restroom

It's much better than the term "embedded," though. I'm tired of hearing about embedded reporters. That must be a lousy job, like having a career as a suppository. - Roger Wright

Wow, a blast from the past, I remember reading it when it first came out. It all comes down to one thing really, not just in software development, we never learn from history. There is no real difference in the method of planning a large software project as to say building the pyramids, the general principles apply. But as allways our generation allways knows better!
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants. - Isaac Newton 1676
