What the heck would I do with that much money? Just give me a million, I'll be fine.

      That's sound logic.

I think the cash value is only 320 million and after fed and state taxes, you may get only 195 million. So yeah, I'd say go for it.

The idiot in me likes to think that if I won, it would be an immediate injection of cash into the country's coffers on my account. While I hate being without the money, I love paying tax and thinking of all the good my contribution might possibly be doing. The way I choose to look at it - my money is 100% efficient and is the money that is actually doing fantastic stuff. It's all the other poor buggers that are paying for bureaucratic stuff-ups and waste. I try to save realism for when it matters. ;)

Yeah, same numbers mean it's for life. Else there's always that risk there :-)

This isn't true - I've done it. I used to play the same numbers and thought the same, but they put the price up one time too many for me & I decided to stop. What actually happens is, if you don't play the lottery, you have no interest in the results & you simply have no idea what the numbers were & it doesn't affect you.

Not for years. I buy a single ticket for a single game that is good for the next ten drawings. No chance to forget No temptation to buy extra I can tell that I lost 'at a glance' since it's always the same numbers. Actually - if I only pocketed 3 MegaBucs after taxes and such - I'd be quite done with life as I knew it. I could very comfortably live on the investment proceeds indefinitely. For any of you who know me, you wouldn't notice any changes in my:   You'd never see me again.

Pretty darn close you are... Here in frigid Wisconsin; lump sum take home after initial taxes(US 25% WI 7.5%) would be about 235M. Then the 2018 tax form will grab another 12% and leave me with 193M So... I guess the final factor is one of the widest recognized chips of all times... Multiply the original amount by .555 to get the final answer

I think this is one of the most realistic (and primary) reasons that I have heard on why people buy lottery tickets (knowing they will most like not win). More or less, I have the same feeling about it. Now my brother made a big mistake year's ago. He plays the same numbers, and has for years. He "has" to buy a ticket now, because if his winning numbers came up, and he didn't play, he said he would have to dance in on-coming rush hour traffic. yikes!

One advantage of the same numbers is that you do not have to actually compare the numbers.
